Studio Yu Yang creates a dream like artistic interior space in London through the harmonious combination of murals, carpets, and textiles. The murals in the living room, hallway, and bedroom are entirelyhand-painted by Yu Yang himself, while the carpets are custom-designed specifically for this penthouse.
Yu Yang aims to provide homeowners with a tranquil sanctuary through the bedroom mural "Mountain View,"allowing for complete relaxation of both body and mind.
This mural captures the unique rural beauty of Guizhou, China, contrasting sharply with the bustling urban landscape of London outside the window.
The background features Guizhou's distinctive karst topography and golden rice fields, while the foreground showcases acrystal-clear stream with fish joyfully leaping from the water.
Influenced by the murals of Pompeii and those found in southern France, the surface of the mural exudes an antique texture, adding depth and character to the space.
The design of the bedroom carpet isinspired by Eastern philosophical serenity, using bamboo to express the refined sentiments and inner peace of literati. The bamboo forest sways gently in the mountain breeze, with leaves falling softly. The white and khaki color palette enhances the tranquility of the design.
Crafted using hand-tufting techniques, the carpet is made from 100% New Zealand wool. The bedroom columns feature anirregular wave shape, harmonizing with the entire Triptych Bankside building, while echoing the antique texture of the hand-painted murals.
The living room mural is custom-designed to connect the interior with the breathtaking views of London outside. Beyond the window, the iconic silhouettes of Tate Modern and St. Paul's Cathedral come tolife, while the mural depicts an entirely new, fantastical three-dimensional space.
Drawing inspiration from the abstract beauty of the Suzhou gardens, the mural also incorporates geometric elements from the surrounding architecture, creating a harmonious dialogue between the natural and the built environment.
The carpet in the living room corridor serves as an extension and reflection of the mural, together creating amulti dimensional enveloping space that blurs the line between reality andillusion. Crafted using hand-tufting techniques, this exquisite carpet is madefrom 100% New Zealand wool, adding a layer of comfort and sophistication to the overall design.
The central carpet in the living room draws inspiration from the Chinese coin pattern, reminiscent of cells in the microscopic world that are continually splitting and growing. Designed as ameticulously crafted oval, it harmonizes beautifully with the curved architecture of the space while elegantly accommodating the furniture. This stunning carpet is made using hand-tufting techniques and crafted from 100% NewZealand wool, ensuring both durability and luxury.
